Our Programs
International Baccalaureate - Stage 6
We are proud to be the only IB World School in the Illawarra, offering both the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and International Baccalaureate Careers Program (IBCP) for Years 11 and 12. The IB is a globally recognised qualification that prepares students for university, careers, and life beyond the classroom, equipping them with critical thinking, research skills, and a global perspective.
Why choose IB?
The IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the IB Careers Programme (IBCP) offer students two internationally respected pathways that go beyond traditional learning. Whether pursuing academic depth or a career-focused approach, both programs develop adaptable, thoughtful, and globally minded individuals.
-
Globally Recognised – Valued by top universities and industries worldwide.
-
Balanced & Holistic – Nurtures intellectual, personal, emotional, and social development.
-
Independent & Inquiry-Based – Builds research, problem-solving, and lifelong learning skills.
-
Internationally Minded – Fosters cultural awareness, ethical thinking, and a global outlook.
The IB Curriculum
The IB Diploma Programme runs over two years and includes six subjects, with students studying three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL).
The curriculum also includes:
-
Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – Encouraging students to explore how knowledge is constructed.
-
Extended Essay (EE) – An in-depth, independent research project.
-
Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – A hands-on program that develops leadership, community engagement, and personal growth.
Students also study two languages and develop essential skills in research, time management, and communication, preparing them for success at university and beyond.
IB & Montessori - A Shared Vision
At Elonera Montessori School, the IB aligns perfectly with our Montessori philosophy.
Both approaches value:
-
Independent Inquiry – Encouraging students to take charge of their learning.
-
Holistic Development – Fostering intellectual, emotional, and ethical growth.
-
Global Citizenship – Promoting cultural understanding and respect.
-
High Expectations – Recognising that all students are capable of excellence.
Both Montessori and IB education focus on critical thinking, problem-solving, and personal responsibility, ensuring students develop into well-rounded, capable individuals.
